Rayner Dental Practice has been owned for the past 40 years by John and Alison Rayner. Along with their son who has been working with them for the past 10 years, they are proud to provide you high quality NHS and independent dental care using modern, safe and effective techniques.

At the heart of their approach, the practice aims to:

  • To treat patients with dignity and respect
  • To see our patients in pain within 24 hours
  • Provide the best and most suitable care possible
  • To provide a pain-free experience
  • Listen and respect your concerns
  • Refer you to a specialist when appropriate
  • Discuss all treatment options with you, including costs
  • Have prevention at the centre of all our care
  • Keep our training up to date
  • Keep our equipment well maintained and emergency equipment and training (including a cardiac defibrillator) up to date
  • Maintain the highest standards of infection control

In return we ask that you:

  • Treat all other patients, staff and visitors with respect
  • Arrive on time for your appointment
  • Let us know if you’re going to be more than 5 minutes late
  • Avoid smoking or eating just before your appointment
  • Give as much notice as possible if you have to cancel your appointment
  • Give us accurate information when completing forms or answering questions, and inform us if your contact details change
  • Pay your bill on time
  • If you are happy with our service, tell your friends
  • If you are unhappy with our service, or you have a suggestion how we could improve, tell us!

Tom Rayner

Wibsey and Girlington Practices

Tom grew up in Queensbury, West Yorkshire. He qualified as a dentist in 2008 from Manchester with Honours. After spending his vocational training year in Bradford, he spent 4 years working in Colne, East Lancashire. During this time, he completed the prestigious MJDF and also a postgraduate certificate in clinical education at the University of Central Lancashire. He has also completed other postgraduate courses including tooth whitening and white fillings. Tom is committed to postgraduate training and believes very strongly in continuing education.

He joined Rayner Dental practice in 2013. For the past 10 years, Tom has been a trainer and mentor for newly qualified dentists on behalf of the Yorkshire and Humber Postgraduate deanery. In 2018, Tom became a provider for short term orthodontics (Quick Straight Teeth and Invisalign) and enjoys carrying out simple cosmetic work for his patients.

Outside of dentistry, Tom spends much of his time with his young family and riding his bike. He can be regularly seen riding to work or over the Yorkshire hills! He is also an avid football fan. Somebody has to support Leeds United!

Wibsey and Girlington Practices
John and Alison trained together at Manchester Dental School and graduated in December 1982. They moved to Bradford in 1983 to work as associate dentists for the next three years. In 1986, they bought a small group of the dental practices and Rayner Dental Practice was born. Their vision was to create a family centered practice where patients would feel at ease. Prevention of dental disease has been an important part of this goal.
After thirty eight years of clinical practice, Mr Rayner has now retired and Mrs Rayner is working towards this. They are still actively involved in the management of the practice and supporting the team.  John and Alison are enjoying more time with their grandchildren  and pursuing their hobbies of cycling, ballroom dancing and gardening.

Christine Greenwood

Practice Manager

Christine has worked in dentistry since finishing her studies and is highly experienced in running a dental practice. She co-ordinates our staff, monitors compliance and assists with any queries the practice receives. Alison Rayner and Christine were first acquainted when they started work together in 1983! Christine is interested in both the clinical and administrative aspects of dental care. She especially enjoys Oral Health promotion and regularly attends courses on that subject. Outside of dentistry Christine enjoys walking, taekwondo, Irish dancing and spending time with her family.

Maryam graduated from the University of Leeds in 2025 with a joint Masters and Bachelors degree in Dentistry.
She is very friendly and will always greet you with a smile. Her main aim in dentistry has always been to make patients feel at ease whilst providing the highest quality, patient-centred care.
Alongside her work at Rayner Dental Practice, Maryam is also undertaking Core Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to further advance her clinical skills.
Outside of dentistry, Maryam enjoys baking, going to the gym, and all things makeup.

Shikal Abdullah

Girlington and Wibsey

Shikal joined the practice in October 2019 following her graduation from the University of Teesside in 2019 with an Honours degree.

As a Therapist, she is able to provide a variety of treatments such as deep gum cleaning which helps to stabilise gum and oral diseases, maintenance appointments, stain removal, fillings for both adults and children and oral health advice which ensures patients’ mouths are kept healthy, fresh and clean.

She is very friendly, caring and is very passionate about her job.  It is important to her that her patients are put at ease and that they are receiving the highest quality of care and treatment.

Outside of work, she enjoys learning new things, reading, travelling and sports.

Sumayya graduated from the University of Leeds with a joint Masters and Bachelors degree. She joined the Whetley Lane practice in 2023.Sumayya loves the challenge that dentistry provides and is keen to continually improve and develop her practise. She hopes to put her patients at ease and provide them with the best possible treatments. When she’s not working, she enjoys baking and spending time with her family and friends.

Emily graduated in 2018 from the University of Leeds with a distinction in her joint Masters and Bachelor degree. Following this, she worked in Hereford and Leeds before joining the Wibsey practice in 2020. Emily likes the variety that general dental practice offers and enjoys getting to know her patients so she can provide the best care for them. In 2023 she became an educational supervisor, working alongside Tom to support newly qualified dentists. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, visiting family in Derby and watching the cricket at Headingley.

Ehmen joined the practice in 2022 following her graduation from the University of Leeds with a distinction. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry and aims to support her patients and make them feel at ease with her gentle approach. Outside of work, she enjoys a good spin class and is a regular gym goer. Ehmen grew up in Bradford and so has family and friends nearby who she enjoys spending time with.

Since graduating from the University of Leeds in 2022 with a distinction, I have thoroughly enjoyed treating patients from all backgrounds. I am very passionate about my work, and enjoy getting to know all my patients, so that I can address their needs in a way that suits them best.I previously trained in Derbyshire, whereby I spent a lot of time treating various patients with different dental needs. Outside of work I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, as well as practicing my make-up skills!

Rabee’ah graduated from Newcastle University with a BSc (hons) in Dental Hygiene and Therapy in 2023. She is passionate about ‘giving back’ and being able to serve the Bradford community in which she has grown up. Working at the Rayner Dental Practice branch on Whetley Lane has allowed her to do this. She is enthusiastic about providing oral health advice to her patients as well as promoting a positive and healthy mindset. Outside of dentistry, she enjoys sewing, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Jonah Thorpe

Jonah graduated with honours from the University of Liverpool in 2025 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, achieving distinctions in all components.  Upon completion of his studies, Jonah was also awarded the Walter Thomas Prize for Clinical Knowledge, having ranked the top of his cohort in finals.

Alongside his work at Rayner Dental Practice, Jonah is also undergoing core training in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at the BRI and St Luke’s hospital.

In his spare time, he is a keen racket sport player and enjoys the outdoors.
